October 22, 2020 – А Joyous New Tradition / Новая Радостная Традиция

Наш приход недавно получил частицу мощей Святителя Иоанна Шанхайского и Сан-Францисского Чудотворца для нашего храма. По Благословению Архиепископа Кирилла Сан-Францисского, протоиерей Пётр Перекрестов привёз нам эту великую святыню. Мощевик приделан к нашей написанной иконе святителя – смотрите фото.

Из-за нестроений и бедствий в нашей стране и во всём мире, после каждой Литургии мы теперь выносим икону с мощами на середину храма и служим краткий молебен, дабы Господь Бог, по молитвам свят. Иоанна, даровал нам мир, благополучие, и здравие.

Святителю отче наш Иоанне чудотворче, моли Бога о нас грешных!

Our parish recently received a particle of the relics of St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco the Wonderworker for our church. With the blessing of Archbishop Kirill of San Francisco, Archpriest Peter Perekrestov brought us this sacred item. The reliquary is now attached to our painted icon of the saint. Please see the photo below.

Due to the civil unrest and natural calamities in our country and throughout the world, after each Liturgy we now place the icon with the relics of St. John into the middle of the church and serve a short moleben, so that the Lord God, through prayers of His holy saint, may grant us peace, prosperity, and health.

September 10, 2020 – Geese / Гуси

Стая гусей cделала перерыв в своем путешествии на юг и остановилась немного подкрепиться на поле перед нашим храмом.

A flock of geese stopped on the field in front of our church
for some nourishment while taking a break from their journey south.

August 2020 – Drainage Project

Ever since the building of our church we have had a problem of water not draining on our southeastern border. Each spring a small pond would form. On the positive side, it served as a place where wild ducks would mate. On the negative, it became a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Our Parish Council decided to remedy this problem. Аfter a bidding process, Josh Landscaping was hired to execute plans prepared by our Civil Engineers at Costich Inc. Now the excess water will flow west into our retention pond and then on into the town storm drain system. Alex Lantuh took advantage of the excess soil generated by the grading to fill in ruts in the church lawn. Glory be to God for all things!

Со времени постройки нашего храма существовала проблема с стоком воды, которая собиралась на юго-восточной границе нашего участка. Каждую весну образовался небольшой пруд. Радостно было видеть диких уток, плавающих в этом пруду, но, к сожалению, эта вода становилась рассадником комаров. Наш приходской совет принял решение этой проблемы, и после проведения торгов фирма Josh Landscaping была нанята для выполнения планов, подготовленных нашими ландшафтными инженерами из Costich Civil Engineers. Теперь избыток воды будет стекать в наш накопительный пруд на западной стороне участка, а затем в городскую систему ливневой канализации. Александр Лантух использовал избыток земли, образовавшейся из-за нивелирования почвы, для заделки неровностей на лужайке перед храмом. Слава Богу за все!

March 14-15, 2020 – Bishop Nicholas visits our parish

With the blessing of His Eminence Vladyka Metropolitan Ilarion, on the Second Sunday of Great Lent His Grace Nicholas, Bishop of Manhattan once again visited our parish. By this visit he continued a renewed parish tradition which was begun in the 1960’s by Vladyka Archbishop Averky and was continued by Vladyka Metropolitan Laurus. Every year these archpastors would visit not only during our parish Feast, but also on the second Sunday of Great Lent. This year’s visit was extra special, because Vladyka Nicholas brought with him the Kursk Root Wonderworking icon of the Most Holy Theotokos. This year Vladyka stayed until Monday morning which gave us the opportunity to have a moleben service with an akathist before the Icon on Sunday evening. Through his inspiring celebration of the services, leading us in a beautiful Akathist sung by the entire congregation and his wise words of counsel, Vladyka Nicholas encouraged us to continue our struggles in the coming weeks of the Fast in order to prepare ourselves for the encounter with the Risen Christ on the joyous Feast of Pascha. We hope that Vladyka Nicholas will continue this tradition in the future. After Divine Liturgy our parishioners shared a plentiful lenten meal with Vladyka, prepared by our parish Sisterhood. During the meal, Dr. Lidia Tkaczvski was presented by her family with a large birthday cake to celebrate her 85th birthday. Everybody toasted Lida with a glass of wine, also provided by her family.

По благословлению Высокопреосвященнейшего митрополита Илариона в Неделю Вторую Великого Поста епископ Манхэттенский Николай снова посетил наш приход. Этим визитом он продолжил недавно возобновленную приходскую традицию, которая началась в 1960-х годах Владыкой архиепископом Аверкием и была продолжена Владыкой митрополитом Лавром. Каждый год эти архиереи посещали наш приход не только в престольный праздник, но также во вторую неделю Великого Поста. В этом году визит получился особенным, потому что Владыка Николай приехал с чудотворным образом Курской-Коренной иконы Божией Матери. Владыка остался до понедельника, так что в воскресенье вечером был отслужен молебен с акафистом пред Чудотворным Образом. Владыкины вдохновляющие Богослужения с прекрасным Акафистом, исполненным всеми собравшимися, завершились мудрым обращением к присутствующим, в котором Владыка Николай призвал нас продолжить поприще Поста, чтобы достойно подготовиться к встрече с Воскресшим Христом в радостный праздник Пасхи. Мы надеемся, что Владыка Николай продолжит эту традицию и в будущем. После Божественной Литургии наши прихожане разделили с Владыкой обильный постный обед, приготовленный Сестричеством. Во время трапезы доктору Лидии Анатольевне Ткачевской ее семья преподнесла большой постный праздничный торт, чтобы отпраздновать ее 85-летие. Все подняли тост за Лидию Анатольевну с бокалом вина, также предоставленного ее семьей.

January 12, 2020 – Parish Christmas Pageant (Yolka)

On Sunday January 12, 2020, following Divine Liturgy our Sisterhood, along with the parents of our parish children provided lunch in our church basement hall. Then everyone was invited to go for our Yolka Pageant which was held this year at the Cobbles Elementary School, 140 Gebhardt Rd, Penfield, NY.

We thank Marina Nadtochii, our main organizer, for all of her countless labors. Without her, our Yolka would not have taken place! We likewise thank her closest assistants: Dr. Helen Strapko, who generously paid for the rental of the school hall, and thus made possible the inclusion of folk dances in our program (three of which she herself choreographed and produced), Alevtina Bubina, Natalia Lisina, Aksana Baldzizhar, Marina Frankunas, Olga Solodova, Elizabeth and Stefan Prokopienko, Inna Murina, Kristina Mihalik and all the other assistants, Father Frost, the Snowmaiden, our MC, Father Protodeacon Andrej, all the parents, our Sisterhood and all who worked hard on a magnificent Christmas festive celebration. To all participants and those who came to support our children and their teachers, many THANKS!

For those who could not attend our Pageant, we provide the words of our Master of Ceremonies, Fr. Protodeacon Andrej, together with the corresponding photos.

Ladies and gentleman, dear guests and parishioners of The Protection of the Mother of God Russian Orthodox Church, we are very happy that you have joined us for our yearly Nativity Pageant!
Nativity is a time of wonder, goodwill, joy, forgiveness and love.
This Great Feast is marked by beautiful traditions throughout the entire Christian world.
Our children, too, have prepared a wonderful Christmas program for our enjoyment.

В воскресение 12-го января 2020 после Божественной Литургии наше Сестричество вместе с родителями приходских деток устроило обед в церковном зале, а затем все были приглашены в школу Cobbles Elementary School, 140 Gebhardt Rd, Penfield, где наш приход провёл Рождественскую Ёлку.

Благодарим Марину Надточий, главную устроительницу Ёлки, за все, все её многочисленные труды. Без неё Ёлка у нас бы не состоялась! Благодарим и её ближайших помощниц: Елену Страпко, которая благостно заплатила за аренду школьного зала и этим обеспечила возможность включения народных танцев в нашу программу (три из которых сама хореографировала и поставила), Алевтину Бубину, Наталию Лисину, Оксану Балдежaр, Марину Франкунас, Ольгу Солодову, Елизавету и Стефана Прокопенко, Инну Мурину, Кристину Михалик и всех остальных помощников, Деда Мороза, Снегурочку, нашего конферансье, отца-протодиакона Андрея, всех родителей, всех деток, приходское Сестричество и всех потрудившихся для устройства великолепного Рождественского праздничного торжества. We all know that Christ’s Birth was a true miracle.
The Infant Jesus came into this world for all of us.
Our younger children have prepared a rhyming play based on the English Alphabet describing this Christmas miracle.

A is for Angels, appearing so bright,

D is for David and his ancient throne
Promised forever to Jesus alone.
E is for East, where shone the bright star
Which Magi on camels followed afar.
F is for Frankincense, with myrrh and gold,
Brought by the Wise Men as Matthew has told.

H is for Herod, whose murderous scheme was told to Joseph in a nocturnal dream.

T is for Tidings of joy, not of danger, telling of Him who was laid in a manger.
U is for Us, to whom Jesus was given to show us the way and take us to heaven.
V is for Virgin, foretold by the sage, God’s revelation on prophecy’s page.
W is for Wonderful, His works and His words, the King of all Kings, the Lord of all Lords.
X is for Christ. It’s X in the Greek, Anointed, Messiah, mighty, yet meek.
Y is for Yes, called God’s Yes in His Word; God’s answer to all is Jesus the Lord.

In keeping with our long-standing tradition, our older children have again worked diligently to prepare several Russian Folk Dances.

We all know that the enduring symbol of the Feast of Nativity is the Star of Bethlehem or as it is also known, The Nativity Star.
This star, which appeared in the sky on the night of our Savior’s birth, shone so brightly that it guided the Wise Men to the place where Christ was.
Our little children have prepared a beautiful Dance of the Stars for your enjoyment.
Let’s welcome our little dancers to the stage!

Все мы знаем, что непременным символом праздника Рождества Христова является Вифлеемская звезда или как мы её называем Рождественская звезда.
Именно она в ночь рождения Спасителя зажглась на небе и светила так ярко, что смогла указать волхвам дорогу к тому месту, где находится Христос.
Наши маленькие дети приготовили нам красивый танец Звёздочек.
Давайте поприветствуем наших маленьких танцоров!

We celebrate Nativity during the cold part of the year and frequently we experience severe frost at this time.
But nothing adorns these frosty times like the beautiful, fluffy snowflakes that fall from the sky.

Мы празднуем Рождество Христово в холодное время года и очень часто в этот день бывают лютые морозы.
Но ничего так не скрашивает эти морозы, как красивые, падающие, пушистые, снежинки.

We are always excited to see more Russian Folk Dancing.
Please welcome once again our Dance Troup as they perform the folk dance finale “Chumak.”

Well, our program is coming to its end, and we now invite all the children to the stage.
Children, you have thoroughly entertained us today! You all danced and sang and performed so well, but it seems to me that one thing is missing from our festivities.
Snow-maiden and Father Frost have not yet appeared for our celebration.
Let’s all call for them together.
Snow-maiden and Father Frost appear and join the celebration with dances, songs and presents.
In the end, Father Frost says goodbye:
Well it is time for Snow-maiden and me to say adieu. We need to go to see other children and wish them a merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

Ну вот наш праздник подходит к концу и все детки приглашаются на сцену.
Ребята, мы с вами так весело потанцевали и повеселились, но мне кажется, что на нашем празднике кого-то не хватает.
Что-то не видел я Снегурочки и Деда Мороза на нашем празднике.
Давайте-ка все вместе позовём их.
Снегурочка и Дед Мороз появляются и присоединяются к празднику с танцами, песнями и подарками.
В конце, Дед Мороз прощается: Ну вот и нам со Снегурочкой пора прощаться, нужно идти к другим деткам и поздравлять их с Рождеством Христовым и с новым годом.
