1:1Paul, an apostle of JesusChrist by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to thefaithful in Christ Jesus: 1:2Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
1:3Blessed be theGod and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with allspiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: 1:4According as he hath chosen us inhim before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and withoutblame before him in love: 1:5Having predestinated us unto theadoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the goodpleasure of his will, 1:6Tothe praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted inthe beloved. 1:7In whom wehave redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according tothe riches of his grace; 1:8Wherein he hath abounded toward usin all wisdom and prudence; 1:9Having made known unto us themystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposedin himself: 1:10That in thedispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one allthings in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth;even in him: 1:11Inwhom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated accordingto the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his ownwill: 1:12That we should beto the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. 1:13In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: inwhom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit ofpromise, 1:14Which is theearnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchasedpossession, unto the praise of his glory.
1:15Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all thesaints, 1:16Cease not to givethanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; 1:17That the God of our Lord JesusChrist, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom andrevelation in the knowledge of him: 1:18The eyes of your understandingbeing enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, andwhat the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, 1:19And what is the exceedinggreatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working ofhis mighty power, 1:20Whichhe wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set himat his own right hand in the heavenly places, 1:21Far above all principality, andpower, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only inthis world, but also in that which is to come: 1:22And hath put all thingsunder his feet, and gave him to be the head over all thingsto the church, 1:23Which ishis body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
2:1And you hath hequickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; 2:2Wherein in time past ye walkedaccording to the course of this world, according to the prince of thepower of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children ofdisobedience: 2:3Among whomalso we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by naturethe children of wrath, even as others. 2:4But God, who is rich in mercy, forhis great love wherewith he loved us, 2:5Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) 2:6And hath raised us uptogether, and made us sit together in heavenly places inChrist Jesus: 2:7That in theages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in hiskindness toward us through Christ Jesus. 2:8For by grace are ye saved throughfaith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 2:9Not of works, lest any man shouldboast. 2:10For we are hisworkmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hathbefore ordained that we should walk in them.
2:11Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are calledUncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh madeby hands; 2:12That at thattime ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and withoutGod in the world: 2:13But nowin Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the bloodof Christ. 2:14For he is ourpeace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall ofpartition between us; 2:15Having abolished in his flesh theenmity, even the law of commandments contained inordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so makingpeace; 2:16And that he mightreconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmitythereby: 2:17And came andpreached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. 2:18For through him we bothhave access by one Spirit unto the Father. 2:19Now therefore ye are no morestrangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of thehousehold of God; 2:20And arebuilt upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christhimself being the chief corner stone; 2:21In whom all the building fitlyframed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: 2:22In whom ye also are buildedtogether for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
3:1For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles, 3:2If ye have heard of thedispensation of the grace of God which is given me to youward: 3:3How that by revelation he madeknown unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, 3:4Whereby, when ye read, ye mayunderstand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) 3:5Which in other ages was not madeknown unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostlesand prophets by the Spirit; 3:6That the Gentiles should befellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christby the gospel: 3:7Whereof Iwas made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given untome by the effectual working of his power. 3:8Unto me, who am less than theleast of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among theGentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ; 3:9And to make all men seewhat is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning ofthe world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: 3:10To the intent that nowunto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might beknown by the church the manifold wisdom of God, 3:11According to the eternal purposewhich he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord: 3:12In whom we have boldness andaccess with confidence by the faith of him. 3:13Wherefore I desire that ye faintnot at my tribulations for you, which is your glory. 3:14For this cause I bow my kneesunto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 3:15Of whom the whole family inheaven and earth is named, 3:16That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by hisSpirit in the inner man; 3:17That Christ may dwell in yourhearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, 3:18May be able to comprehend withall saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; 3:19And to know the love ofChrist, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all thefulness of God.
3:20Now unto him that isable to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, accordingto the power that worketh in us, 3:21Unto him be glory in thechurch by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
4:1I therefore, theprisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocationwherewith ye are called, 4:2With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; 4:3Endeavouring to keep the unity ofthe Spirit in the bond of peace. 4:4There is one body, and oneSpirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 4:5One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 4:6One God and Father of all,who is above all, and through all, and in you all. 4:7But unto every one of us is givengrace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. 4:8Wherefore he saith, When heascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. 4:9(Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of theearth? 4:10He that descendedis the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he mightfill all things.) 4:11And hegave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 4:12Forthe perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for theedifying of the body of Christ: 4:13Till we all come in the unity ofthe faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: 4:14That we henceforth be nomore children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind ofdoctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, wherebythey lie in wait to deceive; 4:15But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: 4:16From whom the whole bodyfitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, makethincrease of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
4:17This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentileswalk, in the vanity of their mind, 4:18Having the understandingdarkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance thatis in them, because of the blindness of their heart: 4:19Who being past feeling have giventhemselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness withgreediness. 4:20But ye havenot so learned Christ; 4:21Ifso be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth isin Jesus: 4:22That ye put offconcerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt accordingto the deceitful lusts; 4:23And be renewed in the spirit ofyour mind; 4:24And that yeput on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and trueholiness.
4:25Wherefore putting awaylying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one ofanother. 4:26Be ye angry, andsin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: 4:27Neither give place to the devil. 4:28Let him that stole stealno more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands thething which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth. 4:29Let no corrupt communicationproceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. 4:30And grieve not the holy Spirit ofGod, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. 4:31Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with allmalice: 4:32And be ye kindone to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God forChrist’s sake hath forgiven you.
5:1Be ye thereforefollowers of God, as dear children; 5:2And walk in love, as Christ alsohath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrificeto God for a sweetsmelling savour. 5:3But fornication, and alluncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, asbecometh saints; 5:4Neitherfilthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient:but rather giving of thanks. 5:5For this ye know, that nowhoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. 5:6Let no man deceive you with vainwords: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon thechildren of disobedience. 5:7Be not ye therefore partakers withthem. 5:8For ye weresometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk aschildren of light: 5:9(Forthe fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) 5:10Proving what isacceptable unto the Lord. 5:11And have no fellowship with theunfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. 5:12For it is a shame even to speakof those things which are done of them in secret. 5:13But all things that are reprovedare made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest islight. 5:14Wherefore hesaith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shallgive thee light. 5:15See thenthat ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, 5:16Redeeming the time, because thedays are evil. 5:17Whereforebe ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. 5:18And be not drunk withwine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; 5:19Speaking to yourselves in psalmsand hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart tothe Lord; 5:20Giving thanksalways for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our LordJesus Christ; 5:21Submittingyourselves one to another in the fear of God. 5:22Wives, submit yourselves untoyour own husbands, as unto the Lord. 5:23For the husband is the head ofthe wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviourof the body. 5:24Therefore asthe church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be totheir own husbands in every thing. 5:25Husbands, love your wives, evenas Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 5:26That he might sanctify andcleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 5:27That he might present it tohimself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing;but that it should be holy and without blemish. 5:28So ought men to love their wivesas their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. 5:29For no man ever yet hated his ownflesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: 5:30For we are members of hisbody, of his flesh, and of his bones. 5:31For this cause shall a man leavehis father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they twoshall be one flesh. 5:32Thisis a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. 5:33Nevertheless let every one of youin particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife seethat she reverence her husband.
6:1Children, obey yourparents in the Lord: for this is right. 6:2Honour thy father and mother;(which is the first commandment with promise;) 6:3That it may be well with thee, andthou mayest live long on the earth. 6:4And, ye fathers, provoke not yourchildren to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of theLord. 6:5Servants, beobedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, withfear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; 6:6Not with eyeservice, asmenpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from theheart; 6:7With good willdoing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: 6:8Knowing that whatsoever good thingany man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he bebond or free. 6:9And, yemasters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowingthat your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of personswith him.
6:10Finally, my brethren,be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 6:11Put on the whole armour of God,that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 6:12For we wrestle not against fleshand blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulersof the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in highplaces. 6:13Whereforetake unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand inthe evil day, and having done all, to stand. 6:14Stand therefore, having yourloins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate ofrighteousness; 6:15And yourfeet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 6:16Above all, taking the shield offaith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of thewicked. 6:17And take thehelmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word ofGod: 6:18Praying always withall prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with allperseverance and supplication for all saints; 6:19And for me, that utterance may begiven unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mysteryof the gospel, 6:20For whichI am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I oughtto speak.
6:21But that ye also mayknow my affairs, and how I do, Tychicus, a beloved brother andfaithful minister in the Lord, shall make known to you all things: 6:22Whom I have sent unto you for thesame purpose, that ye might know our affairs, and that he mightcomfort your hearts.
6:23Peace be to thebrethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord JesusChrist. 6:24Grace bewith all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen. Authorized King James Version, originally published by Oxford Press, Oxford, 1769
